Projects - Having projects in a foreign language is an important and essential part of learning the language because it requires students to practice! When working on a project students use their high order thinking skills, they plan, develop, construct, organize, perform, and create to meet a specific objective in a language that it's not native to them.
Unidad 1
Un viaje a Costa Rica
During this unit, students take a pretend trip to Costa Rica and learn the past tense. For this project, students have to create a photo album with the pictures they "took" in Costa Rica and explain the pictures by saying where they went and what activities they did while on vacation. After the photo album is completed, students will share it with their classmates and explain the photo album and how their trip went.





Unidad 2
Nuestra rutina
During this unit, students learn how to discuss their daily routines, ways to stay healthy, and clarify sequence of events. For this project, students create a daily schedule of their daily routine and describe it. Students then compare their routine with their classmates.

Unidad 3
El mercado de artesanías
During this unit, students learn about shopping, ask for and talk about items at a marketplace. They also learn how to address people politely and to talk about different crafts. For this project, the classroom is made into a market and students have to shop. They then have to write a letter to their pen pal explaining their experience at the market.



Unidad 4
Una leyenda
During this unit, students learn how to describe continuing activities in the past and narrate past events and activities. They also learn how to describe people, places and things in the past and read several Mexican legends. For this project, students have to create their own legend explaining a natural event. Students then create a book and a movie of their legend.



Unidad 5
Vamos a cocinar
During this unit, students learn how to identify and describe ingredients, talk about food preparations and follow recipes. They also learn how to give instructions and make recommendations. For this project, students create a video of their own cooking show and follow a recipe of a traditional dish. Students will then bring their video to class and share the food they made.
